BE Your Body to Ward Off Disease?

Wow. This article is exactly what I'm talking about.

High BMI? What it means for your child, and what you can do about it

Apparently, Michelle Obama needs a doctor to tell her that her kids are getting too fat. I feel sorry for these girls later in life.

Occasionally, I sit with my mom, who is in her 70s, and watch Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. While I will happily admit to enjoying them from time to time, it's clear from the commercials that these shows know exactly which demographic is watching: old people. Every other ad is for something having to do with bladder control, bowel movements, dentures and all sorts of exotic prescription medication with a list of potential side effects that take up the second half of the thirty second spot, and read at double speed at that.

My mom and I often joke that the announcer ought to just come right out and say it: "If this medicine doesn't kill you, it might just cause your psoriasis to itch a little less."

All of these prescription drug adverts come with a subtle underlying unproven assumption, namely, that the human body has lost all capacity in this day and age to take care of itself. No longer is it possible for people to live a good long life and die of old age. It's all random chance as to when or if a body will be stricken with some sort of ailment. We're all just unprotected moons hurdling through space and when it comes our time to meet up with a meteor we're going to end up pock marked or done in. This is inevitable--except for the benefits of modern science, which is our only line of defense against the cold realities of cause and effect.

Not only do our bodies lack any protection from the elements, but we no longer know what to eat. We need studies to tell us what's of nutritional value. And how to exercise, and how much sleep to get and, apparently, that we're feeding our kids too much junk food. Without science we can't possibly hope to negotiate this labyrinth of destruction people so ironically call life.

But is this really the case? It seems to me that animals--except those that live in close contact with human beings--don't die from exotic wasting diseases like MS and cancer, nor even from blocked arteries. They die of starvation, being eaten or old age. And somehow they know what to eat when they can find it.

Perhaps it's something unique to humans, then, that marks the difference. The first difference that comes to mind for most would probably be our minds.

Now just how would this play out? Here's how. Animals don't have minds, which means that they therefore lack the capacity to live in their minds. They and their bodies are one. They can't rob their physical forms of life energy.

People, on the other hand, do this all the time. As far as most people are concerned, they ARE their minds. They ARE their thought life. And they take no time or energy to BE their bodies. They take no time to circulate any kind of life energy throughout their bodies (our natural, animal state). They don't feel their bodies from the inside, in other words.

Perhaps if they would take the time do this--and to the extent that they do it--they could ward off disease and bodily breakdown. (Perhaps many people do this naturally, without realizing it, and so they enjoy good health throughout their lives.)

Maybe this is what Jesus really meant when he said:
When an impure spirit comes out of a person, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that person is worse than the first.  (Book of Luke, Chapter 11, NIV)
If you don't occupy your house (i.e. your body) then you run a great risk of evil squatters returning to occupy it for you.

Okay, let's say for the sake of argument that this is true. How would one go about BEing one's body?

You BE your body by feeling it from the inside. Close your eyes and become aware of your feet. After a  few minutes of concentration, your feet will begin to tingle. Work your way up to your ankles. Wait until they start tingling. Work your way around your entire body in this way, and then connect up all the parts and presto! You are BEing your body.

Pay particular attention to parts of you that might be ailing, a clogged ear (mine is better, by the way, thank you very much), a gamy knee or a weak tooth. Don't forget your eyeballs too. How's your eyesight these days?

Maybe this is what Jesus was talking about when he said:
See to it, then, that the light within you is not darkness. Therefore, if your whole body is full of light, and no part of it dark, it will be just as full of light as when a lamp shines its light on you.  (Book of Luke, Chapter 11, NIV)
Fill your body up with light! Fill it will the life energy that you are. (And what is the source of that life energy?)

Notice we've made no brave pronouncements of truth here--it's all maybes and could-bes.  We haven't done any studies. We don't need to do either of these things because everybody has access to the only study they need, the only proof that counts. Go into your own body and give it a try. You don't need to go off any medication to do it. Just fill your body up with light and see what comes of it.

This I promise you: if you make this your practice, your life will most definitely change for the better. Why? Because your body is your reality. When you are in touch with your body, you are in touch with reality. And you will be shock who you meet when you get there.

What we're talking about is consciousness, which is most easily achieved through the body. That's what it's there for. Perhaps it's true that we have a whole industry, the healthcare industry, set up to make sure you remain unconscious so that you have the maximum need for their products.

Perhaps if we're not present in our bodies, the cells in our bodies think they're dead and begin to shut down operations. They begin the decomposition process early.

And if they have no life energy in them . . . aren't they then by definition dead?
